Tara Gutman is Senior Counsel at GMR. She has been with the firm since 2019 and brings a wealth of knowledge with her. Tara serves as a co-chair to our Women’s Initiative Group and is passionate about sharing her experience with others. Here is more about Tara’s story:
“I began working for a law firm in high school – mainly criminal defense and never any dull moments. That was my after-school job and I stayed with the firm all through college. I moved to NY for law school and always figured I’d move back home and work in the town where I grew up. Right after I took the bar exam, I met my husband and landed a job in insurance defense.
Insurance Defense? Never really saw myself doing that but that’s the thing…you never really know where life will lead you. It isn’t always up to you – you usually have to walk the path and see where it goes. I certainly walked the path! I’ve had some interesting experiences and worked with some great people. No matter how I felt about the place I was working, I always tried to find the positive. I can say that I’ve learned so much about myself and gained such confidence professionally. Even when you don’t like the job you’re doing or the place you work, you should always put your best self forward. Always work with integrity and never settle. You are worth so much more than you know but you also must put in the work.
I am an attorney. I am a woman. I am a mother. I am a wife. I am a daughter. I am a baker. I am a cook. I love to read. I find peace in yoga and meditation. I love college football and basketball (GO GATORS!). I love going to concerts. I love strength training. I enjoy time spent with my family and watching my children grow. I am trying to figure out how to slow down time. We are all so much more than our job title. “
