Warren Holland returned to the courtroom on March 5, 2021 to complete one of the nation’s first in-person jury trials since COVID-19 forced courts to close nearly one year earlier. After selecting a jury of brave Philadelphia County residents, Mr. Holland completed a two day jury trial under strict safety protocols which included face masks, social-distancing, plexiglass barriers, and disinfectants. Despite these limitations, Mr. Holland was able to convince the jury to enter a defense verdict in favor of his client in a case where liability was admitted and only damages were at issue. Mr. Holland’s defense verdict represents Philadelphia’s first civil jury verdict in the post-COVID world.
