“My favorite show when I was in high school was The OC, and one of the characters (Sandy Cohen) was a lawyer. Watching him in my teenage years was what initially piqued my interest in the legal field.
During college at Penn State, I worked for two criminal defense attorneys, and I also interned at the Philadelphia DA’s office during the summer of my junior year. My internship allowed me to see firsthand how much a lawyer can positively impact lives and confirmed that I wanted to go to law school.
My advice for anyone beginning a career in the legal field would be to use your network and seek a mentor if possible. Having a more seasoned attorney in your pocket in moments of chaos that you can turn to for guidance and advice is invaluable. Also, don’t be afraid to ask colleagues or supervisors questions – chances are, any issues that may come up have been dealt with before, and there is usually no need to reinvent the wheel.”
